The Comforter Hath Found Me Here: An Advent Hymn

One still night in Bethlehem

A babe was born in cattle stall

Made flesh to drink my bitter cup

To pay the debt I owe

A tender cry shattered the dark

With tidings of a promised hope

“Behold, the King of all is born

To lead the broken home”

In love, this King entered my night

In kindness, he to sin drew near

Despite the wanderings of my heart

The Comforter hath found me here

The King in lonely garden prayed

“Lord, let this cup now pass me by.

Yet not my will but yours be done,”

The humble Savior cried

He climbed the hill to calvary

With untold mercy in his eyes

And there, to save my sinful soul

The sinless Savior died

Oh see him high and lifted up

Behold, the death of every fear

Lo, beneath his humble cross

The Comforter hath found me here

Oh how I long to be made new

As all weary creation groans

“Precious Jesus, come back soon

To bring your remnant home”

From sin and sorrow, death and fear

I deeply long to be set free

The ancient curse reigns in my bones

And tells me of my need

Come back again, oh promised seed

And quiet each accusing fear

Yet even now, my soul will sing

“The Comforter hath found me here”
